About sleep score

  • Good quality sleep is essential for an enriched intestinal flora, for the immune system, energy production, building muscle mass, storing memories, a healthy body and a clear brain

  • We recommend 7-9 hours of sleep every day, and 10-25% of total sleep should be deep, restorative sleep

  • Deep sleep is essential for removing toxins and repairing cells. Enough deep sleep can improve fat burning and insulin sensitivity . It will also strengthen and ensure there is enough of the growth hormone. Around 70% of sleep hormone production occurs during deep sleep. Inadequate deep sleep is linked to obesity, chronic diseases and a shorter lifespan, according to the American Heart Association. Deeper sleep can also mean slowed ageing.

Sleep quality also gradually declines with increasing age. After the age of 60, only sleep efficiency decreases.

The proportion of deep sleep is normally between 5-25% of total sleep (TST), but varies somewhat with age
