GØT RECIPE
EVENING SMOOTHIE
This smoothie combines ingredients rich in melatonin, tryptophan, and magnesium, all of which can help promote restful sleep. Tart cherry juice is one of the few known natural sources of melatonin, and when combined with the other ingredients, you get a tasty and soothing nighttime drink. Good night and sleep well!
Ingredients
-
3/4 cup tart cherry juice (unsweetened)
-
1/2 banana, (for natural sweetness and magnesium, which promotes sleep)
-
1 tablespoon poppy seeds, (which contain calcium and magnesium)
-
1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk (or other plant-based beverage, which is easy on the digestive system)
-
2 tablespoons Greek yogurt, (for a dose of tryptophan and probiotics)
-
1 tablespoon flax seeds (or chia seeds, for omega-3 and fiber)
-
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
Cinnamon (which can have a calming effect)
-
Ice cubes (optional–if you want a cold smoothie)
Method
-
If you are using frozen sour cherries instead of juice, be sure to defrost them a bit before making the smoothie. Ensure[1] the cherries have been pitted and purée them to get the correct amount of juice.
-
Put the sour cherry juice, banana, poppy seeds, almond milk, yogurt, flax or chia seeds, vanilla extract, and a pinch of cinnamon in a blender.
-
Mix until smooth and creamy.
-
If you want a colder variant, you can add some ice cubes and mix until smooth.
-
Pour the smoothie into a glass and drink immediately.
-
I added this line to make the recipe make sense, but it could just as easily be a line in the ingredients list to use frozen cherries as an option. I would recommend specifying an amount, though - usually more cherries since they blend down.
