GØT RECIPE
GOLDEN MYLK
Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk, is a warming and soothing drink often used in the Ayurvedic tradition for its anti-inflammatory properties. Here is a lactose-free recipe for two people.
Ingredients
-
4 dl almond milk, coconut milk or another plant-based drink of your choice
-
1 tsp turmeric powder, or a 2.5 cm fresh turmeric root, peeled and finely chopped
-
1/2 tsp ground ginger, or a 2.5 cm fresh ginger root, peeled and finely chopped
-
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (to increase absorption of curcumin)
-
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1-2 tablespoons of honey
-
1 tablespoon coconut oil
-
A pinch of ground cardamom (optional)
Method
-
Pour the plant-based drink into a saucepan and heat over medium-low heat.
-
Add turmeric, ginger, black pepper, ground cinnamon, and cardamom if using.
-
Let the mixture heat gently for approx. 10 minutes. Be careful not to boil to avoid the milk separating. This gives the spices time to release their flavors.
-
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the coconut oil and honey.
-
Strain the mixture to remove the large pieces of spice and the foam that has formed.
-
Pour the golden milk into cups and serve warm.
Why this is good for your gut:
Black pepper is important as it contains piperine, a substance that significantly increases the bioavailability of curcumin, the active component of turmeric.
The fat from coconut oil is also important as curcumin is fat soluble, meaning it is better absorbed when consumed with fat.
Enjoy this soothing and healing drink in the evening or whenever you feel the need for a boost during the day. Golden milk is not only lovely and pleasant, but also full of health-promoting properties.
